Pope Leo XIV

Pope: A Handful of Tyrants Are Destroying the World by Spending Billions on War

During a speech on April 16, 2026, in Bamenda, Cameroon, Pope Leo XIV harshly criticized despotic leaders, stating: “The world is being ruined by a handful of tyrants. They spend billions of dollars on killing and destruction, while the resources needed for healing, education, and reconstruction are nowhere to be found.”

The Pope emphasized that “warlords” pretend to be unaware that destruction can occur in an instant, whereas rebuilding sometimes takes a lifetime. These remarks come as the pontiff recently faced insulting backlash from Donald Trump following his outspoken criticism of the US and Israeli war on Iran.
