Tuvi Pollack, independent journalist, writer, and podcaster from Israel:
I’ve heard Israelis are confused, so it’s worth laying things out clearly:
This war was completely pointless from the beginning — and still is.
It hasn’t stopped anything, and it won’t stop anything.
After this war, our situation will be worse.
Israel entered this conflict relying solely on air superiority — nothing more.
Assassinating or eliminating senior officials does not change the nature of Iran.
Assassinating or eliminating senior officials will not bring down Iran’s government either.
Bombings do not eliminate the nuclear program (at best, they only delay it).
Bombings do not eliminate the ballistic‑missile threat — at all.
Bombardment and destruction will be painful, but they do not change the fundamental reality.
Trump entered this war without any real justification.
Trump didn’t know — and still doesn’t know — what the consequences of this action are.
The United States will not gain anything from this (exactly like Israel).
Iranians are far smarter and more cunning than Trump.
Though admittedly, that’s not very difficult.
Trump has no foundation on which he can declare “victory.”
Trump has no real exit plan.
The U.S. will not gain access to Iranian oil.
The Strait of Hormuz opens only when it benefits Iran.
The only certain outcomes of all this are:
- A global economic crisis
- A global energy crisis
- A dramatic surge in oil and fuel prices
- A serious blow to America’s global deterrence
- Russia emerging from its economic crisis and international isolation
- A decline in living standards in the U.S., Israel, and the rest of the world
And for us as well: a social, political, and economic catastrophe —
a disaster whose effects will last for generations.
