Chris Murphy, American senator

I was in a two‑hour briefing today about the Iran war. All the briefings are closed, because Trump cannot defend this war publicly.

Obviously, I cannot disclose classified information, but you deserve to know just how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

Here’s what I can share:

2/ Maybe the main point is this: the war objectives do not include destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons program. This is… uh… surprising, since Trump repeatedly claims that this is a key objective.

But of course, we already know that airstrikes cannot destroy their nuclear material.

3/ Second, they confirmed that ‘regime change’ is also not on the list. So they plan to spend hundreds of billions of your taxpayer dollars, get a bunch of Americans killed — and the Iranian leadership will still remain in power.

4/ So what are the objectives? It appears the primary goals are destroying a large number of missiles, boats, and drone factories.

But here’s the question that completely stumped them: what happens when you stop the bombing and they restart production?

They hinted at more bombing — which, of course, means an endless war.

5/ And about the Strait of Hormuz: they had no plan.

I cannot provide more details on how Iran could block the strait, but I can say this much — at the moment, they have no idea how to reopen it safely.

Which is unforgivable, because this part of the disaster was 100% predictable.

We cannot win this war.

It appears that once this war stops, we will end up leaving behind a government in Iran that is even more hostile to our interests.

Estimates show that the Iranians could restore their missile and drone capabilities to pre‑war levels within a few months.

Their nuclear program cannot be destroyed either — knowledge cannot be bombed, and hidden uranium stockpiles cannot be eliminated.

So someone needs to tell me: why are we continuing this war?
